Sunny with a chance of Hummingbirds
Advice for our visitors:
We are predicting a hot day and lots of hummingbirds at the 2025 banding! Though the mornings tend to be cool at a mile high, please be prepared for a hot afternoon with plenty of water, sunscreen or a sun shirt, and a hat. Please leave your dogs at home. They are not allowed in the ranch yard during banding and hot dogs are unhappy dogs
Don’t forget your camera and binoculars. A fun way to record a hummingbird release is to set your phone or camera on slow motion video. Some birds fly off so quickly that you could otherwise be left with a photo of an empty hand!
Our local Scout troop will be raising money for camp and operating expenses They have Hummingbird Roundup hats, hummingbird feeders and some cute little toys for the kiddos. Coffee and goodies will be. available while they last. The Scouts are also selling a beautiful watercolor painting donated by local artist Gene Sherman Cash or check, please. We can’t take credit cards
Parking is very limited. We advise passing the cars parked on the hill and driving down through the yard. If there is no spot there, park on the road below the house. There are a few handicapped parking spots but you are also welcome to pass the barriers and drop off your handicapped, move your car, and pick up your riders as needed.
Alabama bird bander and researcher Kyle Shepherd will be a special guest this year, joining our licensed hummingbird banders Carl and Francine Rudeen and Cristine Casselman. We are very excited to share this fun event with you.
