Anticipation

The April afternoon feels soft and warm. The aspen bark has a subtle sage colored glow, an indication that the sap is flowing. Golden currents are blooming along the creek. Spring has arrived.

Suddenly, a tiny shape shoots by the porch. He is here! A Calliope male! The first hummingbird of the year!!!

Anticipating the arrival of the hummingbirds is like awaiting the birth of a grandchild. While you know what will happen and when to expect the event, it is so hard to wait.
